The tragic death of Junior Seau had stirred up conversations, calls, and debates across the country about the need for a more comprehensive program to help develop young players during their very brief professional football careers and provide for post career counseling when someone does pass away.
“Clubs need to put together Strength and Conditioning programs focused on the integration of enhancing a player’s dynamic flexibility, explosive power, speed, acceleration, strength, change of direction, and injury resistance. I believe that the communication on crisis management has to be done throughout the league. Everyone should be involved in the process from the owners to the coaches, managers, players, head athletic trainers, team physicians, and the families of the players. Now I will say that the NFL organization has done a better job with “forward-looking reforms and initiatives, such as assigning independent athletic trainers to monitor brain injuries on all teams” instead of doing what they used to do and sweep the issues under the rug as if the concession weren’t happening.
